Interstate Visitor, Derek Cottle E24 WA

Derek Cottle & Mark Sheahan

February this year we had a visit to EYAV by Derek Cottle, Secretary/ Treasurer Endeavour 24 Yacht Association of W.A. EYAV President Frank Rendell gave Derek a tour of the HBYC clubrooms, Slips & Marina. During Derek’s visit to HBYC/ EYAV he had a chance to discuss Endeavour activities with Mark Sheahan, EYAV Secretary/ Treasurer since 1999. Derek is also an enthusiast of The Tall Ships and planned to see the “Enterprize” depart her Melbourne port for the Tall Ship Festival in Hobart.
Derek also had the opportunity to checkout three E24’s on their hardstands, Rocket Science, Sprite and Puff. He was interested that each E24 had different auxiliary motor drives. Rocket Science has a BMW Diesel inboard, Sprite uses an outboard in the cockpit well and Puff has a 2hp 4 Stroke outboard mounted on the transom.
Each skipper is delighted with their choice of propulsion.

How does Skipper James Walshe manage to win so many races?

E24 MK1 Rocket Science team in action with Skipper James Walshe and Crew, David Gaylor & Martin Elmslie at work in the office. Put to the side the long hours and money to maintain  the yacht in first class condition, plus the weather and course knowledge including tactics & strategy experience.

Take a close look at the photo.

The yacht is beautifully balanced, crew weight on the windward rail as the skipper checks the traffic to leeward.
Sails are set perfectly, halyard & sheet tensions are correct and all tell tails streaming.
The bow wave from stem to stern indicates the yacht is close to maximum hull speed.
Consistently sail like this and you may keep James in sight.

Proof of Performance

Crewman David Gaylor proudly holds the HBYC Award shield listing the six Trophies won by Rocket Science. These trophy events were 9 race Series’ against close on 50 very competitive entries. A challenge successfully achieved by James & his team.
